This project will train 100 vulnerable girls and young women in vocational skills. Specifically child mothers, orphans, school dropouts in the fishing communities. After completing a six month course, each beneficiary will be provided with a start up toolkit so as to improve their income and sustain themselves. Girls will undergo vocational training in tailoring, hairdressing, bakery, handcrafts among others.
Due to poverty, a number of vulnerable girls have dropped out of school. This situation exposes girls to unintended pregnancies, early and forced marriages, hence worsening the girls' hopes of living a happy life. In such circumstances, many vulnerable girls and young mothers have resorted to risky sexual behaviors, casual sex, prostitution in such for survival. Unfortunately with such behaviors, HIV infection in inevitable. Hence the increasing new HIV infections among young people.
JOYI Uganda will train vulnerable girls in vocational skills to enable them earn incomes so as to sustain themselves. We shall equip girls with different vocational courses to include tailoring , hairdressing, handcrafts and provide them with toolkits start practicing and earning after training. For sustainability JOYI intends to set up her vocational centre on her own premises to train the increasing number of needy girls/children.
The project will bring about out improved well-being among vulnerable girls/young mothers and their families; reduce gender based violence and promote incomes .
