Hold the Child is providing livelihood/vocational skills development for demobilised child soldiers in greater Pibor South Sudan. This project appeal seeks for support to enrol and train additional 30 children through a tailored 6 months livelihood/vocational skills development for demobilised child soldiers.
The protracted unrest in the republic of South Sudan has been characterised with proliferation of small arms and armed groups associated with child recruitment amidst severe limited coverage of basic education let alone livelihood skills development. Since late 2015 there has been concerted efforts to demobilise and re-integrate boys and girls between 12-18 year back to their communities; Hold the Child has facilitated the re-integration of 160 children in Pochalla who need to be skilled
The provision of livelihood/vocational skills for children and young people aged 15-18 years through our structured learning centre that is linked apprenticeships opportunities will develop the required skills and competences is essential for children and young people's Successful social integration among the local communities. The trainees will go through functional literacy sessions, tailored vocational skills coupled with apprenticeship sessions and walk home with a start-up kit.
Livelihood/vocational Skills development is a pre-requisite for optimal productivity and social inclusion, deterring children and young people from recruitment, communities serve as models of excellence to inspire future reintegration efforts and contribute to the building a safer South Sudan
