Here is a Racheal who sleeps in an open space
As a country, we were previously locked down for about two months. That is from the 7th of June to 30 August 2021 because of the second wave of covid 19 that hit the nation. The delta variant has left so many families adversely affected not to mention the Katanga slum community with which our organization serves.
As the organization, we had to change our focus towards food relief as a way to rescue the women and their families. The project has been able to feed 18 women-headed families providing them with basic meals which are sugar, rice, posho, and cooking oil.
Among the women we chose is, Racheal a woman that was referred to us by a concerned community member that she sleeps on the street with her 9-year-old girl. Both mother and daughter are not safe because first, they sleep under an eclectic pole, it’s so unsafe when it rains, two in the rainy season they can’t sleep since it’s been a rainy season. Racheal lost her home of one room to land grabbers which left her and her two children homeless. We are looking forward to having Racheal join the class next year for her to be able to earn and save for children’s fees and sustain them as a family.
The tailoring class of 5 women is, however, resuming on 6/09/2021 and it will be the second term of the class where the woman is allowed to explore according to their area of interest in fashion.
Thanks to all of you our supporters
