This project will largely empower vulnerable single mothers who are widowed by HIV, poverty and abuse. Providing them with tailoring and fashionable skills and to support their initiatives on how to manage their social economic development, through marketable skills training and personal finance
Prostitution is the major income activity for the women living in katanga slum, women trade their bodies for money not because they love it but because they want to be able to take care of their children and to have a shelter on their heads, and because they don't have a job or capital, prostitution remains the only option. A mother will sleep with a man that she knows he is HIV positive but as long the money earned is able to sustain them for a week or two.
A training of 24 mothers per year in the area of sewing and tailoring, women will be taught and trained in the local language and will be given ample time in class that is 6 months of training, and 2 months where they are challenged to design unique products which at the end of the class will exhibit to their well wishers on their graduation ceremony. And we will provide them with marketable skills and work place readiness.
The project will train 240 women , marketing and selling their products to the organisation volunteers and to the public after which they can be able to start their own workshops or be skilled enough to employ themselves. The organisation also have a saving sacco where the mothers are taught the importance of savings and are encouraged to save for their dream investments, support their children in school and to keeping their families together
