Skilled and Educated Children for Better Bosnia

Summary

We have developed an online platform STEM.BA that serves as a free, educational hub in the areas of science, technology, robotics, programming, and engineering, to enable children in B&H to access the best available educational materials in their own language. Educational materials include translation of world-class videos, lectures, courses, tutorials, fun and science games, and experiments, as well as educational materials produced by B&H students, schools and experts.

Challenge

Post-war Bosnia has an out-of-date educational system that places too much emphasis on memorizing facts and figures. In addition, public schools very often fail to utilize technologies and communication tools that appeal to students of the new generation. The Internet provides learning opportunities in ways that are appealing to students, but existing language barriers prevent Bosnia's students from using the free educational resources available on the Internet.

Solution

This platform solves the fundamental problem for knowledge acquisition for B&H students, namely that due to language barriers, students are unable to access educational materials that include complex foreign terms that students have often never been exposed to. By gathering all relevant educational materials in one place, the platform also mitigates another significant burden for students, as the centralized database can be used to efficiently focus students' efforts and educational pursuits.

Long-Term Impact

Our free online educational platform offers fun and world-class educational lectures appealing to young people from B&H. In addition, the platform helps building a community for students and educators to share their innovative approaches to education. The platform has already became an extremely valuable asset for children, parents, educators, schools and other educational institutions, but we need more resources to further improve it.
