6 Safe, Eco-Friendly Homes for Pine Ridge Lakota

This Summer's Lakota Build Is Underway! Woohoo!

Amazing! Coming back from heart surgery, Christinia is pulling together resources and volunteers for another season. She's loading her old car and a rental truck to the groaning point with donated supplies. Beginning April 24th, she and a team of volunteers will be laying this season's groundwork for the off-grid children's safe house.

Volunteers are still needed at the Fast Horse building site, to start building the infrastructure. Priority will be given to the battery house for the solar array panel. But in addition, they will also build the outdoor kitchen/classrooms, solar showers, outdoor toilets, and dig a couple of root cellars.

During this time, they will find out when Dan Fink, of Buckville Energy, and designer of the solar array panels will arrive to teach the Fast Horse family how to assemble, install, and maintain them. Next, they will work on a wind turbine. Date to be announced. They will also have the Colorado State University students of Engineers Without Borders come to install their seasonal water system for the showers, drinking, cooking, as needed for the build.

Restoring "wicosani" (balance) across all four aspects of life -- physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual -- is the intention underlying every Tiyospaye Winyan Maka project. Using this as a guiding principle, each year the projects take on specific needs, challenges and priorities of the families they serve. They are limited only by available resources from year to year and the family's energy, imagination, and willingness.
