Social impact - it takes a village. Working at the intersection of storytelling and community engagement worldwide, we continue to witness the transformative power of local film events to inspire awareness and collaboration around the local issues that matter.
Every year, community screenings hosted by SIMA Ambassadors and Partners (local advocates and organizations) bring communities together around social issues and mobilize support for local causes bring to life the SIMA Traveling Series. During 2023 we facilitated 30+ film screenings around the world. This year, our Traveling Series is kicking off in Liberia, Cambodia, and Argentina.
META House Cambodia, a local cultural and exhibition center supported by the Goethe Institute, will feature SIMA documentaries as part of a one week global impact film festival in Phnom Penh that META and SIMA have been facilitating annually since 2014. META House is the culture hub for the expat NGO community, local creatives and innovators, and will showcase a total of 15 films from around the globe throughout the week.
Kriterion Monrovia, a student-led nonprofit organization in Liberia, is collaborating with SIMA to produce several weekends of film screenings in Monrovia. The screening series features an impactful line-up of features, short and impact films with themes ranging from the climate crisis, migrant stories, to gender equality and more. Kriterion Monrovia operates as the only arthouse cinema in Liberia.
The Festival Internacional de Cine Ambiental (FINCA) takes place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as an event that fuses the magic of cinema with the imperative need to promote environmental awareness. Two features will be screened during the festival. The festival is hosted by IMD, a nonprofit association designed to strengthen the treatment and study of themes about Human Rights in Latin America.
Thank you so much for enabling us to continue transforming witnesses into agents of change through our Traveling Series!
With warmth and gratitude from all of us at SIMA.
