Sijonge Kuwe Food Gardening Project was very active this period and the aim of this project is to empwer previously disadvantaged communities through self help programmes.
13 women and 3 men from the previously disadvantaged communitiesof Khayelitsha were trained in food gardening skiils and all of them completed basic business skills training which is a two month course on how to run a business.
Vegetables like spinash, potatoes, carrots, cabbage, onios and tomatoes were grown and the harvest was very good due to rainy seasons of July and August..
Our future plans is to get a vacant piece of land in our area from the City of Cape Town whereby we want to grow more vegetables and give the surplus to old age homes and creches.
