The 132,000 babies born in Sierra Leone since the August 2017 mudslides are passing their first months of life in a country still recovering from a natural disaster that has left tens of thousands homeless and without medical care. Circle of Health International (COHI) is supporting our community based partner in Sierra Leone, Midwives on Missions of Service (MOMS) to provide on-going aid in the women and families in the Kailahun district.
630 babies are born everyday in Sierra Leone, a country with a history too often laden with violence, epidemics, and poverty. Circle of Health International (COHI) is supporting our community based partner in Sierra Leone, Midwives on Missions of Service (MOMS) to provide on-going aid in the women and families in the Kailahun district.
Through our partnership with MOMS this disaster response initiative will: Increase the # of skilled birth attendants in the Kailahun district; and Distribute food, water, and supplies to 150 households impacted by the mudslides.
In addition to food, water, supplies, and medicines, these funds will be used to continue the training of 3 maternal community health workers, and to provide supplies at 3 community health clinics in the Kailahun district in Sierra Leone.
