Project Report | Jun 17, 2024
From abandoned venue to a mini factory

Exciting Update on the Reopening of Our Recycling Art Studio!

Dear Supporters,

We hope this message finds you well. We are thrilled to share some fantastic news with you! Thanks to your generous support through GlobalGiving, our Recycling Art Studio is set to reopen in June 2024 in its new permanent location. We are incredibly excited about this milestone and can’t wait to welcome you to follow us on this journey.

At the Recycling Art Studio, our mission is to turn trash into treasure. By up-cycling soft plastics and Styrofoam from locals and businesses into products like bean bags, pillows, and flower pots, we aim to prevent as much plastic as possible from ending up in oceans or dumpsites. On average, we up-cycle 1,000 kilograms of plastic each month, making a significant environmental impact while creating employment opportunities for the community.

Your support has been instrumental in transforming an abandoned concrete skeleton into a sturdy, fully functional venue ready to turn hundreds of kilograms of waste into new products each month. With the PHP 150,885.00 we received, we have been able to complete the renovation and equip the studio with the necessary tools and furniture. Here are some of the key investments made possible by your generosity:

  • Cocolumber for building the roofing frame
  • Insulation foam for roofing to reduce noise and block heat
  • Power tools such as drills and saws
  • An extended medical emergency kit for onsite safety
  • Three ceiling fans, a kettle, and an air conditioner with an exhaust fan
  • Construction materials like concrete, gravel, plywood, and nails
  • Drums for waste segregation and storage
  • Assembled outdoor bins for proper material storage
  • Salaries for six carpenters

Thanks to these upgrades, our venue is now ready to start operations. We are eager to begin the process of turning waste into valuable products and will be recording each step—from starting the machines for the first time to perfecting our up-cycling techniques.

We have already identified six initial signature products, which we look forward to showcasing in our next report. This transformation from a broken venue to a mini factory wouldn’t have been possible without your support.

As we move forward, we hope you will continue to support us in the next chapter—educating and involving our community, developing more products, and reaching our goal of up-cycling several tons of waste each month.

Thank you once again for your incredible support. We are excited to embark on this journey together and can’t wait to share more updates with you.

Warm regards,

Sanne Sevig
