Imagine a life without your hands. Simple tasks such as eating and drinking can become impossible. There are thousands of patients around the world suffering from a deformity or injury who need your help to gain functioning hands.
For millions of patients in the U.S. and around the world, hand surgery is simply not accessible. Some live in a country where there isn't a single hand surgeon. Some lack insurance. Some don't have the means to travel to the nearest specialist. Too many patients are living in pain or without hand function, unable to use their hands to work or perform basic tasks. There is a great need for expert hand surgeons and free hand surgery in this world.
Touching Hands, a program of the American Foundation for Surgery of the Hand, provides free hand surgery and hand therapy to patients with deformities or injuries as well as invaluable education to developing surgeons around the world. The #ShowofHands Project bring us closer to providing every patient in need with access to specialized and affordable care.
Not only will countless individuals be able to return to work and care for their families, surgeons around the world will have a better ability to provide specialized care to the patients in their communities. We can't wait for the #ShowofHands from happy, healthy patients!
