By attaining Global Giving partner reward status of ‘Leader’, VAP has been endorsed to participate in the HP community advising which is a living progress initiative aimed at creating better future for everyone through actions and innovations.HP community advising has teamed up with Global Giving to offer nonprofits professional expertise and advice from HP employees at no cost. Through HP Advising, VAP has matched with HP employee volunteers who are advising in particular areas based on their expertise including: fundraising, branding, marketing, IT, business planning, managing staff, recruiting volunteers and other key business areas. Nonprofits connect with HP Advisors by joining the HP group on Micro Mentor, an online community which matches entrepreneurs and mentors. By signing up and creating advising request with the needs, organizations can choose an HP advisor to work with and the process of matching works both ways. Based on their areas of expertise, HP Advisors who read organizations request can offer to work with the organizations or organizations can request to work with them. After the match, organization can work with the mentor to determine how often to check in and through what medium (phone, videoconference, etc.).Other benefits include participating in micro-mentor live training sessions through webinars.VAP looks forward to leverage on this opportunity to strengthen and build up its capacity.
Marking World Peace Day
As the world was marking peace day on 21st September, VAP joined the wave together with other like-minded organizations under the auspices of Kenya Sports Development Program (KSDP).Over 10 organizations from all the walks of Kenya who are affiliated to KSDP were represented by young coaches both female and male who converged at Soweto grounds with their best sports based skills and knowledge for social impact ready to learn, explore, exchange and network with their counter parts from different organizations. With the topic being ‘peace day’ organizations working in the areas of peace had an opportunity to showcase their expertise and activities related to sports and peace development. During this event that took place in Nairobi, VAP was represented by a team of 20 young lads who also participated in the football 3 methodology, a system designed to foster dialogue and bring about peace by engaging young people at risk of violence, a system that VAP has had experience in due to the participation of streetfootballworld East Africa activities.
