In Kenya, mental health challenges among adolescents are a significant concern. A survey by the Ministry of Health revealed that 55% of adolescents experience mental health-related conditions, including anxiety, substance abuse, and exposure to sexual and verbal abuse. Further research indicates that 40% of adolescents suffer from mental health problems, with anxiety disorders being the most prevalent, affecting 26.7% of this population.
Minding Your Mind will utilize the existence of Nafsi Hub to provide affordable, comprehensive, and tailored mental health services to youth and the broader community through certified counsellors, psychologists, psychiatrists and social workers. The hub offers on-site and online tele-health counseling services grounded in an integrated theoretical model that fosters healing, resilience, and effective psychological coping strategies.
Minding Your Mind interventions are highly effective at building participants' knowledge and understanding of mental health distress and psycho social support skills. Participants who complete Minding Your Mind are empowered with strong minds and supported to make informed healthy decisions. The program expands the capacity of these exceptionally motivated local staff, and builds the capacity of local counsellors as Mental health and psycho social support experts.
