Introduction
Since the launch of the Safe Haven: Empowering Survivors project, we have continued our efforts to provide critical support to survivors of sexual violence, trafficking, and abuse. Our primary focus has been offering a safe, healing environment where survivors can rebuild their lives through counseling, skills training, and emotional support. This report highlights the progress we've made over the past few months, along with the challenges we’ve faced and our plans for the future.
KEY ACHIEVEMENTS
Our team has provided individual and group counseling sessions to 50 survivors. These sessions have focused on trauma recovery, coping strategies, and rebuilding self-esteem. Feedback from participants shows a 90% satisfaction rate, with many expressing gratitude for the safe space created for them to heal.
We have successfully enrolled 20 survivors in our vocational training programs, which include sewing, baking, and hairdressing. Three of these participants have already secured employment in local businesses, while others are working towards completing their training. By equipping survivors with skills, we are empowering them to become financially independent and self-sustaining.
We hosted two community awareness events in collaboration with local partners to raise awareness about the impact of sexual violence and trafficking. These events drew over 200 community members, engaging them in discussions on prevention, reporting mechanisms, and support networks available in their areas.
CHALLENGES
While we have made strides in supporting survivors, the demand for our services continues to outpace the resources available. We currently have a waiting list for both our counseling and training programs. Our team is actively seeking additional funding to expand capacity and reach more individuals in need.
The availability of trained mental health professionals has been a challenge, as the need for trauma-informed care increases. We have started training volunteers and partnering with mental health organizations, but more long-term solutions are needed.
While many survivors have made progress, reintegration into the community remains difficult for some due to social stigma. We are working on building stronger community support systems to ensure survivors feel accepted and supported when they return to their everyday lives.
Looking Ahead
Over the next few months, we plan to:
Conclusion
Despite the challenges we face, we are proud of the progress we’ve made in empowering survivors and advocating for their rights. We remain committed to our mission of creating a safe, supportive environment where survivors can heal, grow, and thrive.
