Over the past five years that Set Her Free has been working in Kampala Uganda, many driven, young women have graduated from their vocational training program. Practicing skills such as hairdressing, cooking, and bead making at the Set Her Free centers while also finding a support system in the Set Her Free staff creates a hopeful future for these girls.
The girls benefitting from Set Her Free’s vocational training are very ambitious. An example of this is 21 year old participant in the vocational training program, Brenda. She comes from a poor socioeconomic background, and was living in the slums in Kampala when she heard about Set Her Free from a friend. She made the decision to come to the Set Her Free center to get what she needed in her life including food and security. After spending time at the center she says that the daily music and prayers at the center “brought her together and made her feel uniform”. She has recently received a sponsorship to continue her studies in dermatology, and following her graduation from the vocational program she will complete an internship. This will help her achieve her goal of starting her own business in the future. Not only does she love cosmetology, she also is passionate about fashion.
The new initiative to maintain a tailoring center where the girls can receive training in tailoring and possibly work after graduating provides a priceless opportunity for many girls like Brenda who aspire to be economically independent. Your support for this program has helped purchase a building and supplies for the center, and future donations will go towards keeping the tailoring center up and running.
Thank you so much for your continuing support!
Best,
