This year, MADRE expanded our existing cross-movement-building work by providing grants and capacity-bridging support to partners integrating climate justice into their feminist peace and movement-building efforts. In partnership with the Feminist Peace Initiative, MADRE hosted the inaugural Feminist Peace Summit at the University of Denver in May. The Summit brought together over 200 activists, academics, policymakers, philanthropists, and other key allies committed to transforming US foreign policy by advancing feminist values of care, peace, and cooperation. Voices from movement leaders who represent those most marginalized in US foreign policymaking spaces-Black, Indigenous, and diasporic women whose communities are most impacted by militarized violence-laid the groundwork for the convening. A breakout group on “Climate and Militarism” provided an opportunity for attendees of diverse sectors, who rarely have space to engage with one another, to exchange experiences and connections for shared action at this intersection. The outcomes of this generative space will inform a “Feminist Peace Roadmap” of lessons and outcomes to disseminate in the coming months.
MADRE’s support of partner exchanges reflects our commitment to strengthening learning among movements, particularly those most impacted by the intersection of climate crisis and militarism. Thanks for your continued support of women and girl human rights defenders building a just peace.
