Thank you for your interest in the Lotus Safe Home, our project to provide temporary shelter for victims of domestic violence in India. Since our fundraising began in November 2018 we have been able to provide:
Let us share with you, why therapy and training is so important.
We were approached by a woman named Madhu (name changed) who was known to frequently escape from her abusive home and seek shelter at different shelter-homes where she would stay for a while, return home, face abuse - and then seek shelter again.
Recognizing this, the caretaker of the Lotus Safe Home counseled Madhu to help her understand her deep-seated fears and the impact of trauma on her behavior. After receiving counseling and therapy, Madhu made a decision to break this cycle and get a job to care for herself and her 3 children, which she did.
Also, we hold joint counseling sessions with the victims’ husbands to help them uncover internal issues and work towards resolution, when appropriate.
Your future donations will help us purchase:
We thank you for your support, and are grateful to work with these incredible survivors to break the cycle of domestic violence in their lives.
*We find it fitting that our caretaker is a survivor of domestic violence herself, having been counseled and rehabilitated by Operation PeaceMaker, and is in turn helping other victims become survivors of domestic violence and break the cycle of abuse - read her incredible story here!
