We would like to first say a BIG THANK YOU to all of our donors who helped us raise monies for our Girl's Shelter in Sierra Leone from mid-November through Decemeber 31st 2016.
We were blown away by the enthusiasm and the generosity of YOU, our beloved community!
Through your support in just a mere 6 weeks, we raised 7051.00 dollars through the Global Giving campaign. As you will see from the pictures, we now have more monies towards construction of the home we have identified as our next Shelter location.
The Commit and Act Girl's Shelter in Bo, helps girls who have been victims of various forms of gender-based violence. They receive not only protection, shelter, clothing, and basic needs but counseling, medical, and legal services along with family reunification whenever possible.
Because the Shelter is the only one of it's kind in the area, we are referred clients beyond our capacity and even clients from different regions across Sierra Leone some of whom we must turn away.
In sum, we have outgrown our current space and need to move from our current location by the END OF FEBRUARY.
Surprisingly, materials are not cheap in Sierra leone.
And while every penny of the $7051 will go towards the shelter, we are still in need of more monies to complete the structure.
Our intention is to serve these girls so they can thrive in their lives and in their communities.
Thus, we are participating in another campaign through Global Giving called the Girl's Fund Campaign begins on March 1st.
With additional monies, we will purchase materials to complete the actual structure, build bedrooms and counseling rooms, buy adequate furniture, pay for legal, medical, school, and therapeutic services.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be sharing more about the Girl’s Fund Campaign and how you can support us reaching our goals.
We look forward to continuing to share our JOYS & SUCCESSES and to share our needs with you as well. We thank you for your interest, kindness, and your Big Hearts.
In gratitude,
Jennifer & the Commit + Act Team.
