She grows campaign!! (Rural communities, Freetown)

The Oasis Foundation’s She Grows campaign continues to drive transformative change for women in Sierra Leone, focusing on raising awareness, providing vital skills training, sharing resources, and offering comprehensive support to combat discrimination, poverty, and gender-based violence (GBV). Our initiatives prioritize empowering marginalized communities to break free from oppression and build sustainable futures. With each step, we are fostering resilience and championing gender equality, ensuring women take their rightful place as active agents of change in their communities.

In underserved areas like Songho, we have made significant strides in promoting sustainable farming. Fifty women, many of whom are single mothers and survivors of GBV, now have access to three acres of land, along with seeds, tools, and climate-smart training. As they prepare for harvest in three months, these women are gaining food security and income, marking a crucial step towards economic independence. Our efforts have also led to greater inclusion—women are now recognized as key contributors to land use, breaking longstanding cycles of discrimination and exploitation.

Our vocational training workshops in soap making and baking are empowering women and youth in Waterloo, a community marked by conflict and displacement. Over 100 participants have received essential skills, with their products being marketed to generate income. These programs not only promote gender equality but also foster collaboration among NGOs, government agencies, and grassroots groups committed to ending harmful stereotypes. As these initiatives progress towards their conclusion in August 2026, we anticipate a ripple effect of economic empowerment and community cohesion.

A critical component of our work involves strengthening law enforcement’s response to GBV. In partnership with Sierra Leone’s Family Support Unit, we are developing training modules for police officers to improve victim support and justice delivery. By sharing resource materials and enhancing capacity, we aim to ensure victims receive timely assistance and protection. Overall, over 100 women and youth are directly benefitting from this comprehensive approach, and through continued support from Rotary clubs and partners, we are scaling these efforts. Our long-term vision is to expand reach, deepen impact, and sustain progress, fostering a more equitable Sierra Leone for generations to come.
