Women in Waterloo, Sierra Leone, face many challenges that make escaping poverty difficult. The area was heavily affected by civil conflict, leaving many widows and single mothers battling extreme poverty, limited opportunities, and gender-based violence. Decades of destruction have left the community struggling to rebuild, with women often bearing the brunt of economic hardship and social inequality.
She Grows Waterloo works to fight gender inequality, violence by empowering women through sustainable community farming and skills training. The project promotes women's economic independence, raises awareness about various forms of GBV, and challenges harmful stereotypes. Through partnerships, it supports women-led cooperatives and offers access to community farming reducing their vulnerability to gender based violence through economic empowerment fostering safer and more equitable communities
