Summary
Eid-ul-Adha is a time of sacrifice, compassion, and sharing. For many vulnerable families in Bangladesh, it is also one of the few times in the year when they have the opportunity to eat meat. Families living in poverty often cannot afford nutritious food such as beef or goat meat throughout the year.
Under the “Sharing Happiness by Qurbani” project, OBHIZATRIK Foundation worked to share the joy of Eid with vulnerable and underprivileged communities. With generous support from donors and assistance through GlobalGiving, the Foundation was able to provide fresh Qurbani meat to approximately 250 vulnerable families living in an urban slum community and the coastal island of Char Lata, Patuakhali.
Challenge
Many low-income families in Bangladesh struggle to afford nutritious food, including meat. For these families, Eid-ul-Adha may be the only occasion when they can enjoy meat as part of their family meal.
Children from vulnerable households are particularly affected by this situation. While other children celebrate Eid with special meals and gifts, children from extremely poor families may experience the festival with limited food and resources. This can create a sense of exclusion and hardship during an otherwise joyful occasion.
Communities living in urban slums and climate-vulnerable coastal areas such as Char Lata face additional economic and livelihood challenges, making access to nutritious food even more difficult.
Solution
To address this need, OBHIZATRIK Foundation organized a Qurbani meat distribution initiative during Eid-ul-Adha 2026. The Foundation initially aimed to support 300 vulnerable families with fresh Qurbani meat.
Through the generous contributions of donors and support from GlobalGiving, OBHIZATRIK Foundation was able to reach approximately 250 families from an urban slum community and Char Lata, a coastal island in Patuakhali, Bangladesh.
The Qurbani meat was distributed directly to vulnerable households so that families could enjoy a nutritious Eid meal and participate more fully in the celebration. The initiative provided not only food but also a meaningful expression of care, solidarity, and inclusion.
Children were especially happy to receive the Qurbani meat as an Eid gift, bringing excitement and joy to families who often face financial hardship.
Long-Term Impact
The project provided immediate nutritional support to approximately 250 vulnerable families, benefiting an estimated 1,000–1,250 individuals. By enabling these families to access meat during Eid, the initiative helped improve their food intake and allowed them to celebrate the festival with greater dignity.
The project also strengthened the connection between donors and underserved communities by turning Qurbani contributions into direct support for families in need. The happiness expressed by children and families demonstrated the importance of sharing beyond material assistance.
In the long term, initiatives such as “Sharing Happiness by Qurbani” contribute to greater social inclusion, community solidarity, and a culture of compassion and generosity. Continued support can help OBHIZATRIK Foundation reach more vulnerable families in future Eid-ul-Adha celebrations and extend the benefits of Qurbani to communities that are often left behind.
