Animal Rescue Sofia set up the first equine sanctuary in Bulgaria, while also disseminating humane practices in caring for equines. The Ranch Sanctuary is a permanent home for neglected, abused or sick horses, donkeys and farm animals. TodayThe Ranch houses 30 residents in need of specialized care and diet, suitable for their compromised health and medical conditions. Expenses for high-quality roughage (hay, alfalfa) and various supplements are daily. The project fundraises for 300 bales of hay.
Although The Ranch Sanctuary is the only facility for neglected, abused or suffering horses in Bulgaria, the number of people donating to the cause is extremely low. We are trying to provide the best possible care to the animals we have on site with our resources, but the provision of good-quality, or any hay at all, continues to be an unbearable expense. Substantial part of the challenge is also the need to find resources for the hay within a short timeline (July - August) during hay mowing.
The Ranch Sanctuary is the only facility in Bulgaria that gives a real chance to 30 neglected, injured, ill or abused horses, donkeys and farm animals. The animals receive medical treatment, rehabilitation and humane care. Due to horses' specific physiology, high-quality balanced diet is a crucial step to their rehabilitation. The concentrates and supplements are donated to the sanctuary monthly, but the horses also need good-quality hay. The project will help us buy the vital 300 bales of hay.
For the rescue horses that find help in The Ranch Sanctuary, a precise and timely diet often makes the difference between life and death. Well-balanced and appropriate feed not only improves the quality of life of the placed horses, but also prepares the ground for receiving further rehabilitation support, so that they can live their lives free of pain and suffering. Furthermore, if we do not struggle for the resources for food, we will have the chance to improve the housing for the horses.
