The Movement for Performance in Education

By Emanuela Barba | Marketing&PR Specialist

Friday, 3rd of June. That was the big day, when over 300 partners, institutional and business representatives, teachers, parents and children gathered together in order to reveal what Teach for Romania has accomplished during its 2 years and a half of intense activity and launch the innovative “Movement for Performance in Education”, which was meant to bolster people’s interest and involvement in the field of education.

This conference can be considered a singificant step forward in improvement, as it brought together important public figures, representatives of different areas, all linked to education. Ligia Deca, counselor at the Department of Education of the Presidential Administration, presented the message of the President Klaus Iohannis who expressed his admiration and support for Teach for Romania, as this programme has successfully been changing the destiny of 4000 children in only 2 years, by giving them a new chace to education and life. Dacian Ciolos, the Romanian Prime Minister, gave a speech regarding the potential of the new generations with a great sense of awareness that try to improve and solve certain problems in the actual society. He gives recognition to Teach for Romania for being an innovative program which deserves to be extented to higher levels. Thus, the Prime Minister showed his support by promising to prepare a programme financed by european funding that schools and NGOs can apply to. Moreover, The Minister of National Education and Scientific Research Adrian Curaj approached the topic of teachers’ salaries, explaining that in order to maintain teachers’ interest and dedication, they need to be rewarded with salaries which reflect their challenging duty. The event also included a presentation of different stories told by teachers and their students in order to offer a better perspective of what Teach for Romania is, a celebration of the first generation of alumni and an announcement of the new generation of teachers who will start teaching in September 2016, counting 60 teachers in total.

“For me, the experience that Teach for Romania has offered me was by far the most beautiful one I have ever lived. I learnt that when we all act united as a team we have an enormous power. This programme means happiness, understanding and a wonderful future for children in Romania. Thanks to Teach for Romania, many children have now been given the chance to a brighter and happier future. We can only thank you all for this beautiful experience.” , confesses Catalina Stoean, a “Teach for Romania” child from a school in Chiselet.

"Our Impact in Education” was more than just a conference. It was an event which proved that through hard work, dedication and collaboration, everything is achievable and possible. It was an invitation to dream, believe and act; to connect with people who all have one thing in common: the passion for education, which is powerful enough to make considerable changes in the educational system in Romania. And we should all be part of this major “Movement for Performance in Education”, as education stands as the basis of a strong and educated society.
