For the 38 teachers within the Teach for Romania program, December is a special time of the year and every moment with their students is more than precious. For everyone, but especially for those who are three months into teaching, December comes with great opportunities for developing values such as kindness and collaboration and to develop children’s creativity.
Children are starting to enjoy their Christmas and final year celebrations. These moments are special to them and it’s one of the joys of going to school, so the teachers make the most of it, by giving children the opportunity to be artistic, recite poems and put up plays.
Nicusor is in 7th Grade and is from Branesti. He is Iulia Calin’s student. Nicusor has been experimenting with drama since he was in kindergarden and thinks that “talent is when people applaud you, praise you and… are proud of you”.
We think every child is talented and is worth being praised; every moment in their evolution deserves celebration, and being part in their process to grow as human beings everyday is a celebration in itself. Being proud of themselves is what Teach for Romania teachers are inspiring their students every day: small achievements and having faith in themselves.
Nicusor’s role models are Stela Popescu, a Romanian actress and two of his acting teachers. Iulia taught him to listen to other kid’s opinions, make every day count (“make every Thursday super-Thursday”) and be act like a super-hero everyday.
Teaching students to be curious about learning, to have faith in themselves is how we plan to change the world: by inspiring values in their behaviours in society and to embrace everything they learn with curiosity.
Nicusor is only one of the 4500 children that interact everyday with Teach for Romania teachers. Thank you for making it possible that these students benefit from quality education every day! Stay close to us next year too, and help these children enjoy beautiful moments in school, next to their peers and great teachers. Your support will guarantee them quality lessons.
