Summary

Since 2014, AAT has started actions in Shan State, northeastern Myanmar. Due to years of ongoing civil wars, many NGOs have left the country and little global attention is paid. However, with a strong network with local temples and resilient volunteers, we AAT are still offering constant protection and reintegration to women and girls who were displaced, trafficked, and ended up in sexual exploitation. Please help us stay in Shan State to make more life-saving differences.

Challenge

Following the breakdown of ceasefire agreements, a launch of new military offensives, and rising ethnic tensions in early 2024, the violence in Shan State is now reaching an unprecedented level. Countless families are displaced and face life-threatening danger, including violence, hunger, injury, disease, and even death. Troops had cut off roads and destroyed bridges, hindering refuge and emergency aid delivery. Without immediate intervention, numerous lives of innocent people are at grave risk.

Solution

AAT's 10-year standing connections in Shan State, with monks and volunteers in most conflict areas, enable us to deliver emergency aid (food, clean water, first-aid medicines, survival kits, etc.) to Buddhist temples, which are now the only refuge for displaced people. Each temple shelters 400 to 2500 displaced people, among whom 50% are women, 30% are children, and many are pregnant women and mothers. We provide extra care for them, including hygiene products, milk, and maternal care items.

Long-Term Impact

Your supports will not only provide urgent assistance, save lives, prevent starvation, disease, and death, but will also be a strong mental support for these displaced people. They'll feel their situations are cared by people around the world. We also aim for long-term recovery by rebuilding the communities. Furthermore, without life-threatening danger, our volunteers in Shan State can also prevent and protect more women and girls from sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
