This is an ongoing project intended to generate funds for our general fund. We were blessed with a significant end-of-the-year gift in December 2020 which significantly boosted the fund. Ideally, we would love to generate $1000/month in donations to fund the work of Shade for Children.
Being "General Funds" money, we can spend it towards any number of projects at our discretion. We saved 1/2 of the largest donation given in December for later projects, but we spent $2000 to fund a matching grant for another large project in which we're raising funds. We are raising funds to help a foster family purchase a used car.
Among other things, General Fund money helps cover the expense of weekly visits to regional orphanages. In addition to building genuine, long-term relationships with children and workers in those orphanages, it is during these visits that we gather material to include in our quarterly updates for "An Orphan's Prayer". General Fund money also helps pay for the online services needed to deliver An Orphan's Prayer such as our monthly subscriptions to ConvertKit and MailChimp. Just today, we emailed profiles of 22 children to nearly 150 subscribers.
We can't thank you enough. Your donations enable us to continue our work in Ukraine.
Good and not so good news to report regarding our General Fund account. Not so good news first: We're no where near our funding goals.
Good News: A few faithful donors have given both monthly gifts and one-time gifts and because of travel restrictions associated with COVID19, our expenses have been much lower than projected several months ago.
The result is, even though our funding is below our goal, we are keeping up with our reduced expenses and we have big plans for the future. We firmly believe there will be a recognizable form of normalization in the months ahead. We may not go back to the way things were; but we'll get back to something more normal than what most of 2020 has been!
Our goal for the General Fund is to secure $1000/month in dedicated funding for Shade for Children. Admittedly, we haven't done much to promote the fund. However, we did recently receive a $1000 "offline" gift that hasn't been recorded on this GlobalGiving site.
The fact is, much of our work has been tremendously curtailed since strict quarantine's have been in place at all of the government orphanages since February. We've only been "on-site" at two different orphanages three times since then to deliver humanitarian supplies.
We've worked with our city social service department and one church to deliver groceries and cleaning supplies to families-in-crises in our community but at very little cost for us- just time and gasoline. The supplies were donated by a local church.
We've delivered a box full of table games to a local foster family with 5 children. As you can imagine, they're going crazy being indoors so much. We spent less than $100 for the games.
I (Clinton) have been building a pair of Busy Boards for two of the toddler rooms in a local orphanage. So far I've put quite a bit of time in it and will probably have about $150-$200 in it before I'm finished.
We have been invited to provide an on-site day camp at one of the orphanages if and when the quarantine is lifted, and we're planning a mountain-retreat camp in August.. We have a separate crowdfunding campaign for the camp budget that has raised $2500 of $5000.
