Summary
Over the past months, Voices of the Defenceless has continued its mission to bring awareness to the realities of abuse and human trafficking through storytelling, advocacy, and education. Despite limited funding, we remained committed to giving survivors a voice and creating platforms where their stories can be told with dignity and hope.
Progress and Activities
Due to ongoing financial constraints, our activities were smaller in scale than planned, but we made meaningful progress:
Storytelling Support: We worked closely with a few survivors of sexual abuse and trafficking to help them write, edit, and prepare their personal stories for publication. This process has been deeply healing for many participants.
Community Outreach: We held small group discussions in our local community to raise awareness about human rights, gender-based violence, and child protection.
Educational Materials: We began drafting new poems and short stories focused on empowerment and resilience, which we plan to publish and share both locally and online.
Partnership Building: We reached out to local organizations and schools to collaborate on awareness campaigns aimed at protecting vulnerable women and children.
Challenges
Our biggest challenge continues to be funding. We raised only $10 through our GlobalGiving campaigns, which limited our ability to expand activities, print educational materials, and reach more survivors. Nonetheless, our team continues to volunteer their time, resources, and creativity to keep the project alive.
Impact
Even with limited resources, the impact of storytelling has been powerful. Survivors have shared that writing and sharing their experiences has helped them regain confidence and begin their healing journey. Our awareness sessions have also opened dialogue among community members about the need to protect victims and stand against exploitation.
Next Steps
In the coming months, Voices of the Defenceless aims to:
Publish a collection of survivor stories and poems.
Expand our community education efforts in schools and women’s groups.
Seek new partnerships and apply for more grants to sustain the project and reach wider audiences.
Use storytelling as a tool to advocate for justice, healing, and human rights protection.
Thank You
We extend our sincere gratitude to GlobalGiving and all who believe in our mission. Every contribution—financial or moral—helps us amplify the voices of the defenseless and bring light where there was once silence.
With love and hope,
Annette Nawls
