It is my pleasure to share our first report via GlobalGiving on the progress of our project to provide sewing machine to a needy girl for self-reliance in Kishanganj district of Bihar.
Your generous gift to provide a needy girl in Kishanganj with a sewing machine has been life-changing. Thank you for your support and for empowering girl to rise out of poverty and life of despair.
Girls living in the rural areas of Kishanganj are highly vulnerable due to poverty and trafficking. Often they struggle to find ways to support their families. Many girls are school dropouts or uneducated and earn little to no wages. They work on the fields as labour or pluck tealeaves or roll bidis (tobacco) for long hours.
Azad India Foundation is running stitching center in villages to provide income-generating skills to girls and women. With a valuable skill like sewing, these girls now have an opportunity to provide a good income for themselves and support their families.
After completing the six-month training program, Hasina (18) received her very own sewing machine so she can start a tailoring business from home. She joined Azad India Foundation’s stitching center in her village. She completed six months of training and learning. With the skills she has learned, Hasina will now able to sew clothes for the people in her village.She will earn an income that will provide life of dignity and help her support family’s needs.She and her parents are very grateful for the support of donors like you.
“I am very grateful because you have given me hope to support my father,” says Hasina who has two sisters and one brother. Her father works as a labour and doesnt earn much.
