Greetings from Azad India Foundation!
It is my pleasure to share our latest report via Global Giving on the progress of our project to provide sewing machine to a needy girl for self-reliance in Kishanganj district of Bihar. Thank you for your support and for empowering women to rise out of poverty. A sewing machine may be a simple gift but it is life changing for many women and their families.
As a part of the ongoing livelihood support program, Azad India Foundation had given sewing machine to Shakila from village Samda, Panchayat Daula.The project team visited her home to see the impact of the donation. With her new sewing machine she is earning Rs 100-150 (approx. $2) per day and support herself.
The project team also visited Saumya, Parulnisa and Ronaq in their villages to see their progress who were also given sewing machines previously.
Saumya from village Miramani is earning Rs 80-100 (approx. $1.5) per day from her sewing machine.
Parulnisa from village Motihara is earning Rs 100-150 (approx. $2) per day supporting her family.
Ronauq from village Sathbolia is earning between Rs 100-120 (approx. $1-1/2) per day.She supports her father.
They get orders from their own villages and also from nearby villages and local tailors also give them work.These strong and confident women are working very hard to change their lives.
Shakila,Saumya,Ronaq and Parulnisa are thankful to the donors and Global Giving for their support.
Azad India Foundation is running two sewing centers at the village Chattargach and Kishanganj where 40 girls are learning basic stitching and tailoring. It is six-month course following which a girl can start earning from her home. As most of the girls belong to marginalized sections of the community they are unable to buy machines. This project helps them to realize their dreams.
