Dear Well-wishers,
Setu Entered the New Year with new hopes and with it came new responsibilities and many an occasions to celebrate and pat ourselves for what we were able to do over the pat one year. We hope you will enjoy this edition of the Setu Newsletter as Setu continues its journey of “Transforming Lives”.
Activities at Setu School
Being the last quarter of the year it seems to be very hectic at school as academic session draws to a closure and planning for new academic session was on. Final exams were conducted in February 2017 and students moved into the new session which started on 20th MARCH 2017. Eighty four new students were admitted and the total strength moved upto 348. The second batch of Class X wrote the class 10 exams.
In our endeavour to provide Hygienic food and drinking water to our students, Setu has setup a new Kitchen. Keeping cleanliness as a key factor, the kitchen facility has an automatic Dishwasher, RO plant for providing pure Drinking water thru two new water coolers as well as a world class cooking facility. We thank some of our Corporate and individual donors who have made this possible.
In house activities
Lohri was celebrated with fan and fare at Setu School. All students and teachers participated and popcorn and sweets was distributed to the children.
The 68th Republic day was celebrated with fun and fare at Setu. The highlight of the event was the National anthem which was led by Hearing Impaired students from the Setu Skill Centre for Differently abled followed by a Cultural show presented by the Setu School students.
Students and Staff at Setu participated in a Holi Milan Event organised by the Student of Setu. The students presented a Skit, organised a Kavi Samelan followed by dances on how Holi is celebrated in the various states of India. There after the teachers and Students sprayed colours on each other to mark Holi. Food hampers were distributed to the students courtesy our Donor Mentor Graphics India P Ltd.
Volunteering Activities
Volunteering by employees of Corporates continued thru the last quarter regularly and we had activities almost every Saturday.
- Workshop for Girl Students and their Moms Health and Hygiene conducted by representatives from Proctor and Gamble
- Remedial Classes for Class 11 students by volunteers from Price Waterhouse coopers
- School Decoration and Painting by employees of Cognizant
During the national volunteers’ week, volunteers from HDFC Bank and Cognizant supported Setu school. Employees of HDFC were involved in classroom teaching and activity along with a Session for adolescent Girls while employees of Cognizant continued with the painting and decoration activity
Courtesy employees Mentor Graphics and Anuja and her family birthday party was organised for school students. Happy Birthday all.
Class 8 students of Mayoor School Noida participate in a joint Science workshop with Setu school
Inter school Activities
School students participated at the Saksham Bharti Painting competition our students and three students won prizes
Setu School students excel in an Inter School Sports Meet organisation by Concern India Foundation winning 8 medals in 4 events and also the Trophy for Discipline and Cleanliness among 13 participating schools
Exposure Visits
Class 7 and 8 Students of Setu Shikshajyoti Kendra Nithari Noida courtesy our advisor Mr Arun Agarwal who organised an Educational trip for the students who visited Qutab Minar, Lotus Temple and Humayum Tomb. It was a great experience for all the 27 students, our teachers and Mr Aggarwal
Students of Setu Shikshajyoti Kendra Nithari Noida along with volunteers from Pricewaterhouse Coopers had a great learning experience at the Science Museum Delhi
Class V11, V111 and 1X students visited CIEF for a workshop on waste management .They also visited Herbal Garden and were learnt the process of Rain Water Harvesting. They also learnt how solar energy is produced and how to make organic compost
Class 9 and 12 students of Setu School were invited for an orientation visit by Fidelity international. A great learning experience for the students and also the employees had great time. Their feedback - " We enjoyed and our entire staff was very impressed by the aptitude of the children"
