Dear Reader
I am sure you will enjoy reading the quarterly magazine which is list down our activities and achievements. I take this as an opportunity to thank our donors, volunteers and well wishers who supported us in bringing smiles on our students. Thanks to all our Donor contributions, new uniform for all Setu students: two sets of new jeans, new T shirts, socks , one belt and a new pair of shoes. Thanks to Mcarbon we also got new furniture for the library and the lunch room. During this quarter three immunisation camps were organised with the support of Max India Foundation. On 2nd July our students and 98 students were immunised with typhoid vaccine, on 6th August about 96 students were immunised with Hepatitis B 2nd and 3rd dose and on 8th September, 99 students were immunised with Hepatitis B 1st , 2nd and 3rd dose. A Puppet Show was also organised on that day emphasises on the importance of immunisation.
Inter School Activities :
Mayoor School students visits our school twice in a month with their subject teachers. Activities are planned in such a way that students of both schools work together. It was a great learning for all of them. During the quarter in maths they were taught ‘Playing with numbers’ by using kidney beans, in English they taught students ‘Concept of Tenses’ and ‘How to write picture composition’. in another visit, maths teacher taught about the’ 3-D shape and their different views’. She also helped students to make 3-D shapes in which they learned and enjoyed a lot. On 27th August an English workshop was held for class 5th students by them. The teacher of Mayoor School taught ‘Adverbs’ to our students and also did a story play. Students showed great interest and actively participated with them. It was a great learning experience for students.
Students from Army public School visited our school with their teacher for an activity with our students on the very sensitive issue of Child labour. Students and teachers were really happy to see involvement and the confidence level of our students.
Our students of class 9th and 10th went to Mayoor School for Science practical. We are very thankful to them for their support.
School Activities
On 25th July an exhibition was organised, our whole school participated in it. Students made working models, charts, scrap books and which covered all the subjects. The Students did marvellous job. It was organised on parent teacher meeting so that parents also got an opportunity to see the exhibition. Students explained their models with a lot of confidence.
On 1st August our school election was conducted for Head girl, Head Boy and House in charge. Students from class V to X voted for the same.
Swachh Bharat lessons for primary students at Setu - learning through a Movie and a Workshop on cleanliness by volunteers from Parle G was organised on 3rd Aug in our school.
On 15th August Independence Day celebration was held in our school. On this day our trustees Mr Puneet Modhgil and Mrs Vidya Vishwanathan joined us. Visitors from Cognizant and Octane visited our school to enjoy the cultural programme. First of all, some models created by students were displayed for our visitors. After that our Health Care Lab was inaugurated by HR Manager of Cognizant. Later, the flag hosting was done by our trustee Mr. Ravi Kaul and our Chief Guest. The students performed in a cultural program on the occasion. This program ended with a quiz session and distribution of gifts to the students whose models were selected for the exhibition.
On 4th September we celebrated Janamastmi and Teachers Day. The Day started with Janamashtmi celebration. The Jhanki was decorated by senior Students while junior students came dressed up as Radha, Krishna, Gwalas and gopis. A dahi handi program was also organised.
While the students had their own event it was the turn of the Setu Teaching staff to relax and enjoy. Amazing recreational day organisedfor the teachers which included Fashion show, Lot of games, Treasure hunt, lots of eats and finally the Teachers Day Award Ceremony.
Corporate Volunteeering and Visits : On 14th August, students of class 8 were invited to Dell for Independence Day celebration. They played many games and enjoyed lot of activities with Dell team. At end they were provided with refreshment. Our class 8th students visited Cognizant and interacted with their employees. They had a great day with them. Played lots of games and enjoyed refreshment in their cafeteria. For many of them it was a first visit in a corporate.
Workshop for students : On 17th August our two teachers with two students went to Traffic Management Institute, Faridabad. They taught students and teachers about traffic rules, road signs etc. Guest Lectures for Step program students were volunteers from Accretive Health. On Saturdays employees use to come and deliver lectures on IT. We are thankful to Saurabh and Shreya for their continuous support. They also organised our student’s visit in their office.
A group of volunteers from Bal Bharti Vidhyapeeth conducted Story Telling Session for School students. Thanks to volunteers from Cognizant who helped us in painting our new building and giving it a lively look. The Volunteers Group- Leaders for Tomorrow conduct English Communication activity with Setu students in the afternoon shift on a regular basis.
Certification of Step course students: : On the successful completion of the first batch of the Step course, Certificate were awarded to the students by Mr. Naresh Kumar Solanki AGM SIDBI, also present on the occasion was Ms Bipasha and Mr.Tony from Smile Foundation. Our 28 students have been placed into jobs after completing the said course.
Skilling in Health Care: The Health Care Skill Lab was Inaugurated by Amolakh Segal, Manager HR, Cognizant on Independence Day 2015. Also present on the occasion were the trustees of Setu - Vidya Vishwanathan, Punit Modhgil, volunteers from Cognizant, Octane, our friends and well wishers.
A 45 days course which includes theory as well as practical knowledge was also launched. This course will help our youth in getting employment through hospitals and nursing homes. Thereafter the Second batch of the Health Care program also commenced within a span of 3 days, 50 students are enrolled at our second center at Village Salarpur.
Students Corner
Certificate awarded to Pooja a student of Setu Shiksha Jyoti Kendra Nithari for outstanding performance on 15 August by the President of B Block Sec 31 RWA Noida Mr PC Sarin at the Independence Day function. Congratulations to Pooja, student of class 7th.
