Educational trip to the National Museum
Dear Friends!
I hope you will enjoy the Summer Issue of our News Magazine “Setu Marches” which carries success stories. Volunteers, parents and of course our dedicated staff and their hard work is the backbone of these success stories.
This period also saw the first batch of our students passed class 10th and got admitted in different schools for higher education. It has taken us a long way to reach where we are and we still have to go a long way.
During the quarter April- June 2015 the Key Feature was new learning both for students and staff.
The Annual Summer Camp held from 10th May to 29th May 2015. This year the Summer Camp was very different. Our students learned to create best out of waste and created materials for fund raising from recycled products. They made napkin holder, coasters, fancy flowers and paper bags. Students also learned to write and enact skit and participated in the dances workshop. The IT Skill Center students learnt movie making and enjoyed a lot.
The focus during the quarter was also towards Staff Training with started off on 11th April 2015 with a workshop for all staff on Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace. It was an eye opener for many members and gave a clear picture on behavioural practice at work place and finally ended with healthy interactive discussion.
Similarly workshops were held on
- Road Safety for Teachers and Student from Setu by PVR. They were given ideas how to implement road safety project in our school. Safety rules and regulation on traffic signs
- Planning to implement projects for teachers by PVR.
- Academics by Salam Namaste which created a forum for teachers to discuss issues they are facing in implementing CBSE guidelines.
- Teaching Practices by Teach India
All these workshops helped our teachers improve skill and also build plans on implementation during the year.
As regards our Students they got to participate in
- An Educational trip to National Museum for Natural History - Class 9th and 10th students along with all teachers and Principal Madam visited museum. It was a good exposure for students. The whole group was very enthusiastic to learn.
- A Farewell Party for the First batch of Setu Shiksha Jyoti Kendra appeared for board exams this year by the Class 9th students and all the students participated enjoyed a lot. Finally our trustee Mr. Ravi Kaul also joined in and wishes them for their bright and successful future.
- Immunisation and General health check-up camps - On 14th April our 100 students got immunised with MMR at a camp organised by Max India Foundation. Another camp was organised for Hepatitis vaccine. They also organised a puppet show for the students. The theme was health and hygiene. It was a different and great learning experience for our students. And finally on 3rd June General health check up camp was organised for Nithari students of Setu Smile Step Program and on 5th June at Salarpur Skill Centre for students doing Sewing Course.
- Finally the first batch of our students passed class 10th and got admitted in different schools for higher education.
This Quarter we had Volunteer visits also:
- Employees from Dell visited our school and interacted with students. They conducted quiz and distributed gifts to the children. Students participated with full enthusiasm and they learned in a different way.
- Employees from Accretive set up a process to conduct IT Guest lectures on Saturdays for our Digital learning students with a focus on career counselling, supported them in creating CV and helped them with email accounts.
We take this opportunity to thank the employees of Dell and Accretive for their Support.
Student’s corner Our stars and their achievements:
- Ravi passed with 1st division, got admission in Vanasthali Public School.
- Pintu passed with 2nd division and got admission in commerce in Dharam Public School.
- Jyoti passed with 2nd division and distinction in English, got admission in Dharam Public School in Commerce.
- Rishi passed with 2nd division and got admission in Dharam Public School in commerce, Noida
- And finally it is about Neha’s Success story - Neha was 10 years old when joined Setu, and at that time she aimed to become an Inspector. She was studying in class 4th. Her father Ashok Kumar is a labourer by profession. Her father’s monthly income was Rs 1800 pm which supported their family of 5. Her favourite hobby is drawing. They stay in 509 JJ Colony Sector – 16, Noida. In the academic session 2013-14 she completed her senior secondary school with first division. After that she joined B.Sc from IGNOU.On completion of class 12th as per the Setu scholarship policy she was entitled of scholarship and Setu sponsored her higher studies which she is continuing from IGNOU.
