Dear Friends,
SETU concluded its 5th year of operations on 31st March 2012, during the last one year thanks to the support from all of you and the trust you had in us we have successfully been able to facilitate the following:
SETU school at Village Nithari Noida completed its fourth year of operation. One hundred and forty four (144)children out of which seventy four (74) are girls are being provided education free of cost. This included 22 new children admitted this year- academic session 2012-2013. The school has been upgraded to class 8 from the session 2012-2013.
SETU as part of its mission to promote education among children, especially the Girl child has granted scholarship to one hundred and forty (140) Girl children studying in Noida under the SETU Girl Child Scholarship Scheme 2007 onwards. SETU shall sponsor the complete education of these children which includes school fees, books and note books, uniform and coaching class fees.
The session 2011-2012 also concluded with thirty (30) children going thru formal education in classes KG and 1 at the SSJK Salarpur which was upgraded from a transit facility in 2010-2011 to a formal school as a spoke to SSJK Nithari.
Sixty Five (65) children at Alibardipur shall be admitted into formal schooling in July this year on the conclusion of their one year grooming session.
SETU under the Health project has made an effort to create awareness towards Aids and Cancer which covered almost 21000 employees across 12 companies across NCR. Apart from this Blood Donation Camps were also organised during the year.
As has been the tradition the Fifth SETU Shiksha Jyoti Painting competition was successfully held at Delhi Public School Noida in Jan 2012.
The year ending on a new high for Setu with the launch of:
1. The Setu IT learning Centre at Nithari In Feb 2012 and there are currently 29 students undergoing Basic IT Skills Program accredited by NIIT Foundation.
2. To strength the English Communication Skills of the Children in the school Setu thru support fromLiqvid has started special English communication classes for all School children at Setu.
3. As part of the Women Empowerment Program, a Mahila Prashikshan Kendra was opened at Nithari in March 2012, which shall provide Skills in Tailoring to start with and also run an Adult Education Programfor which curriculum has been provided by TCS. We have currently enrolled 40 women here.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all our associates and the employees of SETU since without their contribution all this would not have been possible.
As we move into year six of our operations, let us take this opportunity to unfold our plans for year 2012-2013, and depending on the resources available and your support we plan to:
Extend the new initiatives on IT Skilling and WEP to at least 1 new locations.
Extend number of Primary schools – SETU SHIKSHA JYOTI KENDRAS to 2 – an addition of 5 more classrooms leading to 100 more children getting basic education.
Hold regular Blood Donation camps to facilitate approx 2500 units of blood during 2012-2012.

Setu Launches Skill Centre for under-privileged Women : Setu joins hands with Navratan Foundation to Launches Mahila Prashikshan Kendra for Skilling of under-privileged Women and Girls.
Setu shall be offering Courses in Tailoring Skills enabling the first step towards employability. This course shall enable a respectable, much sought after and prestigious career for such young women and girls; not only does it provide a decent opportunity for employment but also creates self employment skills and also fits in with raising a family and provides her with status in her community.
The Kendra was inaugurated by Mr. N P Singh Senior Administrative Officer and Former DCEO of Noida. Mr Ashok Srivastava, President Navratan Foundation emphasized on financial independence of the women of rural and slum areas.Mr. Ravi Kaul, Mentor and Chief Trustee, SETU wished all the women a bright future and also said that aim to enroll and train 200 young women at our Nithari Campus Noida in 2012 .
Summer Camp : The annual Summer camp at Setu was organised for two weeks starting 10th May 2012. This year special emphasis was give on English communication along with fun giving skills like Dancing and Art and craft. More than 150 children participated.
Dancing classes were a hit with the maximum participation after English communication skills Courtesy our associates Dabur, gift hampers were distributed to the children on the conclusion of the program
Blood Donation Camps:
Setu as part of its Health Initiatives had organised a blood donation camps in collaboration with Rotary Blood Bank Noida.Four such Camps where organised with the support of Corporate houses like NIIT, Dell and the employees had shown a great enthusiasm during the camp and 500 units of blood was organised at the camps. .
Health Camp : On 28th of March 12, Rotary Blood Bank Noida had organised a Blood Test for the children of SSJK Nithari and Salarpur. Dr. Pushpender Singh from Rotary Blood Bank Noida coordinated the activity. It was a great effort done by them, and this was the first time when the little children came to know what their Blood Group was.
An Eye Checkup Camp was also organised and conducted at SSJK Nithari on 7/4/12, this eye camp was organised by the Doctors of I-care centre Noida - Dr. Sonam, Dr. Metu Rajput, Jyoti Rani and Raj laxmi had come. Check up was done for all the students from Nursery to 8
A Dental camp was organised by the Nithari community in Sector 31 park on 2nd May 2012. All our children had gone to the camp. They were examined by the concerned Doctors of the camp.
Anti Tobacco Day : On 31st May 2012 our ten students went to CNBC office to celebrate world anti tobacco day. They made posters and slogans on anti tobacco and then went to all the departments and requested their staff not to smoke as it will harm all of us. The Children from class 2nd to 5th participated and were encouraged by the CNBC staff for doing a good job. They had snacks and were given small gifts by them.
Text Book donation : A Ladies Club comprising of women from various sectors of Noida Lead by Mrs Chadha donated text books to the children of Setu for the academic year 2012-2013.
Go Green Project : As part of its contribution to Environment Setu Children have formed a GO GREEN CLUB which apart from spreading awareness about protecting the environment helps organise green projects. As the first initiative the members of the club embarked on to create a green Setu School. Use of plastics is banned, waste material is recycles and a lot of plants were potted and small garden created at the school.
Qutub Minar visit on 23rd April 2012 : A week long event was organized by CEE to mark the “World Heritage Day” and the “Earth Day” from 18th April to 25th April at Qutub Minar which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This event aimed at raising awareness and sensitizing the school students (Class 6 – 8) Youth of India on various issues related to environment and Indian Culture and Heritage.
Setu students were invited to be a part of the event on 23rd of April to celebrate the “World Heritage Day”. Ten students from Setu along with teachers attended half day programme and participated in different activities organised by them. They actively participated in quiz, games and Nukkad Natak. They were taught how to make bird nest with low cost materials. At the end they were given prizes for each activity. Setu children won three prizes in different games. It was a nice experience for the students.
Corporate Volunteering Visits: During the Quarter April to June a large no of Corporate Volunteers disseminated their valuable knowledge to and spent a lot of time in Activities with the children and students at Setu.
We conducted 17 events which Involved more than 300 employees from Corporates like Dell, Barclays Bank and RMSI. Starting with a football match in April to IT Guest lectures, Quiz and Cultural events in June along with the painting and decoration of the Setu School at Nithari.

Setu's Special Volunteer and Guest: Micky Davis Director - IT Delivery Service (ITO) from Dell US spent his valuable time with the children at Setu at Noida in a three day event - BE THE CHANGE. He was involved in painting and decoration the school on 24th June 2012,
On his next visit on 25th June 2012 he distributed prizes to the winners of the Quiz Contest and witnessed a cultural program organised by the children. Finally he was part of the Dell team which played a football match with the Setu students on 26th June 2012 at the Dell premises.
Setu appreciated the contribution made by Mickey and a memento was presented to him by the children.
Upgradation of facilities at Salarpur : The facilities at the Setu Shiksha Jyoti Kendra Salarpur were upgraded with a creation of a mini library of the students. Apart from this a Computer and a water cooler was also provided at the facility to cater to the education as well as hygenie needs of the students.
Teachers Motivation and Skill Updating Programs : On 9th of April 12, Setu Foundation successfully completed its 5th year. It was a great day for all of the employers of Setu family. The day started with a presentation on what Setu had achieved in the last five years thereafter there performance by students. Finally awards were given to the performers for the year.
On 13th April 12, on English Communication workshop was organised for the teachers of Setu at SSJK Nithari.
Mrs. Neeti Bhardwaj was the instructor all the teachers participated in the workshop. The entire workshop was very informative as it was based on skills to make teaching more enjoyable and interesting for the students. This was a practical learning with the help of computers. The entire workshop was to encourage and motivate the teachers to become best for the students.
On 31/03/12 a Pre primary teacher training workshop was organised at SSJK Nithari. The primary teachers of Setu School and many other schools like Om Foundation, Sardar Patel School etc had attended this workshop. It was very interesting and educative workshop. This was organised by Mrs. Sarita Prabhat, from Lady Irwin College.
A workshop was conducted on 30th June 2012 at OM Foundation. The topic of the workshop was “Values and Ethics in Science and Technology”. The resource person was Dr. R. D. Shukla. He very well explained the difference in science and technology. He focused on science experiment conducted in the past and ethics involved in it. He suggested teachers to be impartial in talking measurements and conducting experiments by student. This can increase and boost up the children’s confidence and hence there are chances of new inventions. The workshop was very motivating.
Meet Sindhu Ravi Principal Setu Shiksha Jyoti Kendra Nithari : Sindhu's husband is DGM in a private company she has two sons, her elder son is in class 12th and younger son in class 7th. She joined Setu in 2008 as Principal and has been part of this journey since the conceptualization of the School when there were hardly any students and building was also not very comfortable. Thru her dedication and hard work now school has 144 students, 13 teachers and 4 support staff and operates out of four storeyed building.
She says children are very talented and along with academics we also give skill trainings, like computer certification course etc.
