Senior Volunteers Making a Difference

Summary

Our valued volunteers, come to Cedar Village with a friendly hands-on approach to work together with our residents.  Cedar Village, an Older Adults community located just outside Cincinnati, Ohio, houses over 280 elders in our independent and assisted apartments or the skilled and long term care units of our Health Care Center.

Challenge

The Cedar Village volunteers are a vital part of what we need to fulfill the needs of our residents.  In order to provide the love and attention our residents deserve, it is crucial that we have the help of volunteers who unselfishly gives their time to enhance the lives of our seniors by helping out with whatever program is going on at the time they are here.  It is essential that Cedar Village continues to provide an environment of choices for our adults, to keep their minds active.

Solution

Cedar Village will continue to promote this wonderful service of amazing and devoted individuals, volunteering their precious time to enhance the lives of our residents.

Long-Term Impact

This project has many benefits as there are a number of programs which need the aid of senior volunteers to help them run efficiently.  Our residents as well as our staff are grateful to these exceptional volunteers for all their time and help.

One of our events involved student volunteers from a local high school to participate in our own “Senior” Prom!  Not only did our “seniors” have fun, but the students learned both dances from past times, and heard some stories from the past in their partners’ lives.  The telling of these stories was just as important as the receiving.  A few lasting friendships were kindled.  These good-natured student volunteers made a huge difference in the lives of our residents.
