Cedar Village’s senior volunteer program provides the opportunity for the residents to live with purpose. Our resident volunteers take a collaborative approach in planning their weekly projects and monthly outings. Many of our volunteers, averaging age 80 and older, were active volunteers in their community before moving to Cedar Village and our volunteer program allows those individuals to continue their volunteer work throughout retirement. It is never too late to do good for the community, and individuals who are new to volunteering are always welcome.
Research shows that individuals who do volunteer work have lower mortality rates, greater functional ability, and lower rates of depression later in life than those who do not volunteer. Older volunteers are the most likely to receive greater benefits from volunteering because they are provided with physical and social activity and a sense of purpose, according to a report by the Corporation for National and Community Service.
Or volunteers always wear their purple shirts and their smiles while sharing stories and bonding with the individuals they are serving in organizations throughout the community like the Ronald McDonald House, Crayons to Computers, homeless shelters, and much more.
We are proud of our senior volunteers and the difference they make in the community!
