This project will deliver two short-course programmes in Nigeria, empowering 150 university students and teachers with 21st-century skills. We want to send five educators to teach at the University of Lagos and Ekiti State University this July. At UNILAG we will lead classes on Financial Literacy in Africa, Social Entrepreneurship, Research Methods and Gender Equity. Ekiti has asked us to teach classes on AI & Digital tools, Teaching, Research Methods, and Sustainability.
Nigeria has a large youth population but universities are struggling to prepare students for the future. Unemployment for graduates is high, partly due to a lack of practical training in areas like entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and digital skills. At the same time, industries around the world are being changed by AI. But many Nigerian teachers and students aren't yet trained to make full use of these tools and risk being left behind.
We tackle these issues head-on with short, focused courses to 150 students plus teachers across two universities. We know this model works. For 3 years, Professors Without Borders has delivered more than 6,000 hours of hands-on, future-focused learning to over 400 students at UNILAG and Ekiti State University. UNILAG has endorsed our role in "re-orientation & relevant skills acquisition and our work has also been featured in the Nigerian press, including The Guardian and Leadership.
Beyond our direct learners, we're commited to working in Nigeria to build a more modern and relevant education. As one former participant put it: "Because of Prowibo, I better understand myself and my place in society financially and socially." That kind of mindset shift spreads. When young people feel confident and capable, they support their families, strengthen local economies, and become the role models their communities need.
