Container of aid has been sent to Sierra Leone

By Claudia Domin | Community and Events Fundraiser

Shipping Container for health units in Sierra Leone

The container of medical supplies which is destined for Holy Spirit Hospital, Makeni, Sierra Leone has been sent on it's way!.

Holy Spirit Hospital will be taking the lead and handle all arrangements for securing clearance of the consignment when it reaches its destination. The Hospital will also distribute the medical aid in equal shares to the six other participating health units. In total four hospitals; two health centres and a hospice will benefit from the health care goods included on board….two of which will also receive their One Wish Project items, namely….

  • UBC Mattru Hospital – who requested an autoclave machine
  • Loreto Health Services, Makeni – who requested medical/privacy screens; weighing scales; BP machines and a microscope.

The total value of goods on board the 20ft container is a record breaking £144,757.27p – with a combined weight of 4,829.05kg

What else is on board…..?

On board we have the usual basic health care goods – such as bandages; dressings; needles; syringes; swabs; wipes; catheter/stoma supplies and dermatological goods – together with much needed items of PPE (including disposable aprons; coveralls; face masks; face shields; goggles; over shoes and surgical gloves).

There are uniforms (i.e. scrubs; tunics; trousers and lab coats) – and a good selection of laboratory consumables and medical devices (including BP monitors; nebulisers; pulse oximeters; stethoscopes and thermometers).

Finally, there’s an assortment of medical textbooks; mobility aids (i.e. walking frames; walking sticks and crutches) – with the usual selection of hand knitted blankets; toys and children’s clothing to fill in the gaps.
