Distribute Aid is sourcing and shipping aid to support the American Near East Refugee Association's healthcare projects in Lebanon. This project will fund the delivery of a full shipping container of medical aid to support war-wounded civilians and prevent the spread of communicable diseases among the 1.2 million displaced people who have fled to Beirut. The estimated value of this shipment is $200,000 worth of medicines, medical items, and other aid related to public health.
On October 1st, Israel invaded Southern Lebanon and escalated it's bombing campaign across the country. Since then 1.2 million people have been displaced by the conflict, many of whom fled to Beirut. As of October 25, the Ministry of Public Health said Israeli strikes in Lebanon haddamaged55 emergency medical centers and 158 ambulances. Healthcare facilities are overwhelmed, and communicable diseases are spreading through the displaced population.
We are seeking funding for our first shipment of medicines to Anera's healthcare teams in Lebanon. By itself it won't solve the problem, however after completing this project and delivering the aid we will have a fully-documented and streamlined process to follow. At that point we will conduct ongoing needs assessments and organize regular aid shipments of medicine and related population-health aid. This will allow Anera to address increased needs until the war ends and the recovery is complete.
Distribute Aid has been shipping aid to Lebanon since early 2021, and delivered medical equipment and hygiene kits to Anera earlier this year. The research we've done for this shipment will expand our capabilities, allowing us to send medicines to the country. It will also help prevent further increases in needs by preventing the spread of disease and malnutrition. Finally, the partnership we are building with Anera will strengthen Lebanon's healthcare system after the war concludes.
