Every Step to School, A Step Toward Freedom

By Julia Matthew | Managing Director

Dear friend,

It starts with something as simple and as profound as the sight of a young girl walking to school. Her school bag slung over one shoulder, hope in her eyes, ready to discover a world beyond her village.  At El Shaddai, the empowerment of women and girls is at the heart of our mission. Through our various initiatives, we strive to create safe spaces, educational opportunities, and holistic support systems for vulnerable and underprivileged girls.

We know that education is the most powerful way to break the cycle of early marriage. By keeping girls in school, we give them the chance to dream, grow, and shape their own futures. Bavya’s (name changed) return to education began with one such conversation. One of our outreach workers believed in her potential, helped her to get enrolled in our home and start learning again in our school.

Like Bavya over the past year, girls across the slums area have returned to classrooms with bright smiles and renewed energy. They are learning, exploring, and discovering the strength within themselves to make choices that can transform their lives. With mentorship, life skills, and supportive school environments, these girls are gaining the confidence to pursue their dreams and imagine a future filled with possibilities.

Your partnership is helping educate girls, strengthen communities, and create lasting change in Goa. Thank you for believing in them and walking this journey with us. Your continued support can help more girls from remote villages of Goa access education and build brighter futures.

Every step these girls take in school is a step toward breaking cycles of poverty and early marriage. Watching them grow, learn, and embrace their potential is a constant reminder of the power of education to transform lives, communities, and the future of Goa.

 El Shaddai family!
