In the Muyumbu hills of Kabale, Uganda, a young girl named Ruthy lived with eyes that sparkled like the morning sun. But life had other plans for her. Her parents adhered to traditional beliefs, favoring their sons and relegating their daughters to fields and farms. Yet Ruthy yearned for more—a future beyond the boundaries of their small village.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow on the red earth, Ruthy sat by flickering candlelight, tracing words she couldn’t yet read. Her dream? To become a healer, mending broken bodies and hearts. But at twelve years old, she dropped out of school—her fate sealed by her parents’ decision that education was a privilege reserved for boys.

Hope arrived in the form of Zake, a tireless soul from “Candles of Hope Uganda,” an NGO empowering girls through education. Zake enrolled Ruthy in a tailoring school, where the hum of sewing machines became her anthem. Each stitch was a step toward reclaiming her dreams.

Weeks turned into months, and Ruthy’s nimble fingers danced across fabrics, weaving stories of resilience and hope. Zake gifted her a brand-new tailoring machine—a beacon of possibility. But Ruthy’s dreams extended beyond herself. She vowed to stitch hope into the lives of other girls, shielding them from prejudice.

Together with Zake, they embarked on a mission—to provide 1000 school children with uniforms, a symbol of dignity and belonging. Ruthy’s Stitched Dreams was born. Her needle moved with purpose, creating pathways for girls who dared to dream beyond societal norms.
