Project Report | Jan 17, 2019
A New Start

By Rina Lazo | Director of Benefactor Services

The girl entered in the year 2019 in the nursery class of the dreamer center. Currently she lives with her two brothers and their parents. It is worth mentioning that his family is poor and they are beneficiaries of some programs of Nuestros Ahijados.

The girl was born with hormonal problems, specifically with "Hypothyroidism", which has made her suffer many health problems due to her late physical development and in some occasions, suffers from emotional instability. The mother of the family has the need to go to some medical evaluations monthly in the Capital City, because it is the only Hospital of the Republic that has doctors specialists in the case.

Another consequence that the girl has suffered is to suffer from speech problems, she can barely pronounce the basic words necessary for a child to say; As a result of this situation, the girl began to study in the Dreamer Center, where she receives attention as any child, and due to her speech difficulty, she receives additional therapy with a speech specialist in Nuestros Ahijados; he has also been benefited with school supplies, general medical help, the mother is an active member of the mothers' club and receives vegetables weekly.

In the educational environment in Guatemala, there is the disadvantage that children with some learning difficulty, speech or special abilities are sometimes discriminated against or establishments do not have a qualified staff to deal with these circumstances, and the few places they provide these services are of a very limited quota or have a very high price, for which people of limited resources can not access these services, however, Nuestros Ahijados, in this particular case, could use their resources to help this girl, who in the future will not only be able to develop academically and socially, will also have a very healthy school environment and what is necessary for her family to progress.
