SENDING A CHILD TO SCHOOL

The first term has come and gone. Schools closed on 2 April 2026 and are opening on 12 May for the second term. Resource mobilisation remains a key challenge. A new school needs a lot of resources. What would be especially great is finding 10 individuals to partner with each child we work with. School fees per term are $350 per child. We need $3500 every term to cater to the 10 children in our high school care program.

Due to the Iran war, fuel prices have skyrocketed by as much as 50% per litre here. This has a huge impact on the cost of food, transport, and school materials. Transporting the children, for example, now requires $110 per month. Which translates to $1100 per month and $3 300 per term. The need for our own minibus has never been greater. It's an absolute must now. Yes, purchasing it needs a substantial amount between 6 and 10 000 United States dollars, depending on the second-hand condition, but the savings over time are worth it.

We have opened the school to mainstream kids who can pay school fees to mitigate the day-to-day expenses of running the school, including rentals.

We are not resting on our laurels. We have found a way to get some produce on the ground through the support of a partner. We have ¾ ha of maize and ¼ ha of sugar beans. There is potential to grow at least a ha and a ½ of maize and a ha of sugar beans soon. This helps raise funds for feeding and for the educational expenses themselves. I have included a picture of the farming effort.

We want to embark next on running our own primary school. Currently, our primary school kids are at a local Salvation Army school, and their fees per term are $100 per child, including stationery.

CONCLUSION

The need for improved and consistent funding continues to ring loud. We will continue to do all we can to keep making a difference; at least the children are going to school, and they have shown good levels of motivation for it. Their future depends on it. We are, however, grateful for all the support and help you have been affording us. Continue to partner with us. Let us change lives one life at a time together.
