Joyful child at one of our centres
Dear donors
Greetings from Bangalore Baptist Hospital Society.
In a world that thrives on diversity and inclusivity, it is crucial to ensure that every child, regardless of their abilities, has the opportunity to reach their full potential. This report highlights the remarkable progress and positive transformations witnessed among children with disabilities through various therapeutic interventions and support programmes. With the efforts of our team, the support of families, and the generosity of donors like you, these children are embarking on a journey of growth, development, and newfound possibilities. Their stories reflect the profound impact of interventions and remind us of the immense value of providing care, resources, and opportunities to help them thrive. In this report, we bring you the inspiring journeys of these children, highlighting their triumphs, challenges, and the significant role you play in shaping their lives.
We run seven centres for children with disabilities in Bangalore Rural Districts in collaboration with the District Disability Rehabilitation Centre.
Pragnavi, an energetic three-and-half-year-old girl diagnosed with mild autism and speech delay, has sprinkled her therapy sessions with fun and joy. Once struggling with limited eye contact, shaky hand-eye coordination, and a tendency to get easily distracted, Pragnavi now shines brightly as she eagerly settles in for a full 45 minutes of therapy. With each passing day, her eye contact sparkles with newfound radiance, and her hand-eye coordination dances with playful precision. It's a joyous sight to witness Pragnavi's remarkable progress as her laughter and infectious enthusiasm light up the therapy room, reminding us all that the growth path can be filled with excitement and happiness.
Gahan, an energetic two-year-old, has overcome the difficulties of ecolalia, radiating with newfound speech abilities. He now gleefully utters "amma" (mom) and "appa" (dad) and even strings two-word sentences. Moreover, he has joined the Anganwadi (government-sponsored child care and early childhood development centres), frolicking on an exciting journey of growth and learning.
With cerebral palsy, Anjali struggles to walk independently and lacks head control. She also exhibits poor fine and gross motor skills. However, she is undergoing physiotherapy to address these difficulties and improve her motor abilities.
Dhanush, diagnosed with down syndrome and mild intellectual disability, experienced significant improvements through the use of a teaching board. This tool helped him enhance his eye-hand coordination and develop colour identification and number concept skills. Additionally, the teaching board contributed to improving Dhanush's concentration attention and reducing anxiety levels. Previously, Dhanush struggled with attentiveness, but with the aid of the teaching board, he has shown remarkable progress in these areas.
We also conduct various group therapies for children. Group therapy for children with disabilities provides a supportive space where they can connect, learn, and grow together. It promotes social skills, emotional regulation, and self-confidence. Children develop communication, empathy, and problem-solving skills through structured activities and discussions. Facilitated by professionals, group therapy empowers children to overcome obstacles and thrive.
We are thankful to the donors whose contributions have immensely impacted the lives of these children. Without their support, these children would face a life confined to their homes without the necessary care and support. The donors' kindness and compassion have opened doors of opportunity, providing therapy, resources, and a nurturing environment for these children to flourish.
In gratitude,
Carol
