We extend our deepest gratitude to all our donors for giving the light of hope to poor, needy girls from the remote areas of Nepal. In Nepal, only 1 in 5 women can properly read and write.Sending girls to school is a last priority in these rural, marginalized communities, where people have lived hand to mouth for generations. Even when given the chance to go to school, many obstacles make the likelihood of staying in school overwhelmingly challenging by having to work at home. In addition, girls tend to drop out of school prior to gaining admission to higher grades because their families, especially those with three or four children, simply cannot afford the costs for school fees, school maintenance, insurance, books, pens and uniforms. To make matters worse, colleges (where high school grades 11 and 12 are offered) often require large deposits paid up front at the beginning of the school year, as impossibility for families who work day jobs for daily subsistence wages. Often the most insurmountable obstacle is the shortage of accessible colleges, requiring students to travel to other towns to attend higher grades. These costs can be prohibitive. This is why ADWAN is committed to providing financial support to these girls enabling them to reach their full potential through receiving a quality education relevant to their needs.
Education, ADWAN believes isthe most lasting and effective way we can help girls and their families to escape from the cycle of poverty. It also represents a double investment – an investment in the girls but also an investment in the future of their family, society and country as well. The scholarship program operates primarily in rural areas where the poor make up nearly 50% of the population. Starting in 2008 with only 10 girls, the program has expanded and currently supports 1240 girls - the first women in their families to break the cycle of poverty and illiteracy.
GlobalGiving fund for 2020 and 2021 is designated for the girls who will pass the SEE (Secondary Education Examination) in 2020. The SEE exam is going to start from 19th March and complete in 30th March 2020. The result will be published in May 2020. We will select the most deserving of the needy girls once result has published. From the installments received thus far from GG, we will able to send only 18 girls of the target 50 deserving girls to high school in 2020. That is why we hope your generous support will continue and we kindly request your help for the 32 remaining girls by donating again at https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/send-50-girls-to-high-school-in-nepal/. Also, please share this link with your family, friends and relatives because your small support make a big impact in the lives of many poor girls in rural Nepal.
We at ADWAN express profound gratitude for the consistent and generous support from kind-hearted people like you. Together, in partnership, we will continue to be an agent of change for Dalit as well as other marginalized, poor women and children in Nepal. Special thanks from the bottom of our heart go to GlobalGiving team for creating such a wonderful platform and supporting needy people allover the world.
