The project context is matrilineal succession in which the widow and her orphans are dispossessed of their property and belonging upon the death of their husband/father.Girl orphans are most vulnerable and are forced into early child marriages, child trafficking to work as house mates in urban cities, sexual abuse and HIV/AIDS (they ranked the most infected in a 2011 survey).By sending these orphans to school, the project will enable them to take informed decisions as well as escape the traps
In Boyo and Menchum Divisions of Northwest Cameroon where widows and orphans are dispossessed of their property upon the death of their husband/father, there are more than 1000 vulnerable orphaned girls who are out of school and are being trafficked to serve as house mates in urban cities, given to early forceful marriages, fall prey to sexual abuses of various forms and are now victims of HIV/AIDS just because they are striving to support their siblings and widow mothers.
By sponsoring these vulnerable orphans in school, the project will enable them to become eligible to better incomes(which cannot be taken away from them upon the death of their on husbands because it is perceived to be theirs and not that of the deceased). In this way, educating these girls will help to break the cycle of enslavement. The education gained by these orphans will also enable them to make informed decisions as well as choices.
By educating these female orphans and making them eligible to better personal incomes, the project will spare future generations of orphans from being denied access to education, trafficked as well as forced into early marriages. This is because, even with dispossession, their educated mothers will be able to supply their basic needs.
