Fourteen year old Sheetij is a confident, intelligent child of humble origins. He dreams of giving a better life to his parents and younger brother. He is the older son of a daily wage worker who barely earns enough to provide food for his family. His father’s annual earnings are Rs $1100 - less than $100 per month.
Sheetij goes to a no fee school which is 12 kilometres away from his home. It takes him two hours and two buses to reach school. When asked if he didn’t find it hard to go school daily, his reply was heart-rending:
" I am the greatest hope of my parents”, he wrote. “They hope that I have lots of courage and determination to follow my dream. That gives me strength to make my life better. This is why I will try my best and never stop before achieving my goal".
Sheetij is one of the 15 students whom GREAT Foundation is preparing for the Joint Entrance Exam to take them to national level colleges of engineering and science.
The children dream big and are trying to realize their dreams through hard work. Project Udaan students are very diligent and give time to their studies alongside regular school.
After joining Project Udaan classes Sheetij sees himself at a different level. He wrote in his feedback recently that "When teachers teaches us here, it become very easy to me to understand and I feel, I become more clever than before. I want to continue these classes till grade12 because I want to go to IIT, India's best engineering college".
Sheetij's performance shows he may well achieve his father's and his own dreams.
Sheetij’s Marks in school in 2017-18
Unit Test(Bi-monthly ) Mid Term( Six monthly)
