Surmounting the Deadly Second Wave of Covid19

By Vandana Sinha | Program Director

Nutritious meals home delivered for sick families
Nutritious meals home delivered for sick families

A young woman, Neeta in her early thirties, was in her advanced stage of pregnancy. She was expecting her second child. Down with raging high fever, severe body ache and extreme weakness, she had no energy to cook and feed her little daughter.

They had no money to buy food from outside either. The saddest part was that her own parents staying only few blocks away could not help her due to fear of catching the infection. Yes, you guessed it right. The second wave of devastating pandemic in Delhi did not spare her nucleus family. She along with her husband and little daughter, got the dreaded infection of Covid19.

Fortunately for her, Prajna Foundation learnt her plight through a common contact. That was the time, Prajna Foundation decided to home deliver cooked meals for such families in plight until they recovered completely. Hygienically packed nutritious food was arranged and reached every day at the doorsteps of all the Covid affected families in South Delhi.

This was an extension of the already ongoing Covid19 Relief Program for poor and jobless families living in the slums around our center. The foundation served up to 1000 cooked meals every day during the strictest lockdown and it is still continuing. Dry Ration kits were also provided to those families who had the means to cook their own food. By the end of June, 150,000 meals were provided to the needy people.

In order to protect 5000 inhabitants and prevent the spread of infection, Health Safety Kits with mask, soaps, sanitizers and immunity boosting tablets were freely given to people living in the slums around our center. We also maintained a stock of First Aid Kits with basic medicines like Paracetamol, Doxycycline, Invermectine and Oximeters for people with mild infections. During this time, the foundation also took the initiative of providing female hygiene products free of cost to young girls and women caught up in lockdown restrictions.

Impact: Call it a miracle or God’s grace, with all the combined efforts of the foundation, the donors and the supporters, we were able to keep Covid19 at bay. There was not a single reported case of infection in the locality even at the peak of the outbreak. All our staff and volunteers with high exposure to public also remained safe.

Media Recognition:

It is also very heartening to share that Prajna foundation received recognition for its creditable Covid Relief work by France TV and Swiss TV. Needless to say, this had been really possible with all the benevolent donors and great supporters like you. Here is the link for you to watch:

We sincerely thank you for your continued support.

Gratefully Yours,
