1. New Semester Preparations: Planting Seeds of Well-being
We have officially kicked off preparations for the new academic year's mental health curriculum. Leveraging our official communication channels and collaborating with peer organizations to spread the word, we received an enthusiastic response from teachers across multiple provinces nationwide, with nearly 700 applications submitted.
The project team conducted a rigorous, multi-dimensional qualification review, comprehensively evaluating applicants based on application questionnaires, phone verification, and their past participation in similar initiatives. To date, we have confirmed the qualifications of over 300 teachers and initiated the distribution of supporting materials. Concurrently, the project team has been shipping out the mental health curriculum toolkits. Many teachers who have already received the manuals have already begun applying these resources in their mental health classes at the very start of the new semester.
2. A Glimpse into the Classroom: Exploring Self-Awareness Through Puzzles
As the manuals arrive successively, mental health classes for the new semester are now underway smoothly in various regions across the country. Let's step into one of these classes to see how our mental health classes accompany children in planting the seeds of psychological well-being in their hearts.
In a 3rd-grade mental health class, based on the manual's design, the teacher led a "Self-Awareness" themed activity using puzzles as a metaphor for self-exploration. Featuring physical warm-up games, puzzle creation, and peer sharing in a relaxed and gentle atmosphere, the children engaged enthusiastically.
During the bodily interaction game, children used postures like half-squatting, standing, or raising their hands to indicate how well certain descriptions matched them. Through these lighthearted interactions, they gradually realized that everyone has unique preferences and traits.
Afterward, the children recorded their hobbies, personalities, and trusted individuals on puzzle cards to piece together their own portraits, followed by taking turns in small groups to introduce themselves and discover the unique strengths of their peers.
3. Reflections and Growth: Every Child is Unique
Various states of the children could be observed during the activity:
These details provide valuable directions for optimizing future activities. Sharing spaces can be tiered—prioritizing pairs and small groups to accommodate children who are less comfortable speaking in public; reference examples can be prepared in advance to inspire children to discover themselves from multiple angles; and simple listening rules can be agreed upon beforehand to guide children in recognizing each other's strengths. Furthermore, children's puzzle works can be exhibited after the activity, allowing the warm feeling of self-acceptance and respect for differences to endure.
Every child is like a puzzle made of different pieces, each with their own unique shape. Through this gradual process of self-exploration and mutual recognition, they learn to appreciate themselves and gently embrace the differences of others.
4. Thank You for Your Continued Support
Without the support and kindness of our generous donors, the smooth implementation of this curriculum would not have been possible . Your care, transcending distance, has provided children with a safe sanctuary to understand themselves, slowly pick up their confidence, and discover their own inner light.
