By Milcah Kigoni | Project Leader
This year, Seed Programs International partnered with the Action Center for Development and Community Empowerment (ACEDEVCOME) in Cameroon to strengthen school gardens and expand opportunities for students and communities to grow fresh food.
ACEDEVCOME runs a nursery and primary school in Nkongsamba, in Cameroon’s Moungo Division. The school serves 340 students, including 215 internally displaced children and students with learning and physical disabilities.
Many families in Nkongsamba rely mainly on plantains, cassava, and maize, while fresh vegetables are often expensive or difficult to find. The new school garden will provide students with hands-on learning opportunities and a source of fresh vegetables. It will also serve as a demonstration site where parents and local farmers can learn about sustainable vegetable production.
This October, students and teachers broke the ground for the new school garden, by clearing the garden site and making beds in preparation for planting.
Thank You for Making This Work Possible
Thank you for your continued partnership. Your support is helping students in Nkongsamba and Kampala gain access to nutritious food, along with practical knowledge and experience in sustainable food production, including in communities with limited farming space.
