This project will empower rural women, youth, and men with access to sustainable skills that increase Nigeria's productivity, income, and employment to end hunger and poverty while reducing the impact of climate change. Seed to Wealth will empower 20 beneficiaries in each selected community, providing them with fruit trees, crops, regenerative farming, and alternative skills like beekeeping and crafts for sustainable living.
Nigeria is one of the world's most highly populated countries, with over 200 million people. According to the National Bureau of Statistics 2020 report, 40% or 83 million Nigerians live below the country's poverty line of $381.75 per year. It is estimated that the number of poor people will increase to 90 million, or 45% of the population, in 2022. Nigeria is recognized as being vulnerable to climate change effect, which, if left unchecked, will cause damage to a living income
The Seed to Wealth provides fruit trees seedling, crop varieties, livestock, alternative skills like soap, shoe and bag production, and more, with a startup package for each beneficiary. During the project period, women will receive help to establish boundary planting of fast-growing leguminous shrubs to boost soil fertility. This will also give them a ready supply of firewood, reducing the need to go far into the bush to find fuel and the risk of being sexually assaulted
The project will train and empower 20 beneficiaries, including smallholder farmers. They will be equipped to become better managers of their natural resources and wealth creators. This will help reduce poverty, deforestation and associated conflicts.
